If Steven Colbert is proud to teach Sunday School, so am I. I know the video is a bit old (2008 I believe) but the timeless truths are still just as timeless. I don't recall learning anywhere that Lucifer disobeyed God because he was told he had to obey man. Does anyone know where that reference/theory may have come from?

You don't b/c you didn't. (and if your question was rhetorical I apologize) There is no such "record" of lucifer being "told". I could see one making this jump, however, because Lucifer had to have known he would have to obey man(a man) eventually and he did obey this man (Jesus foremost, and later even the apostles/saints in exorcisms) But the funny part is the ol'devil would have never been told something to obey (atleast not by the apostles/saints nor might Jesus even have b/c a man [thus there being a man with complete authority over all angels etc etc everything else]) if he hadn't gone bad and started doing bad things. Almost a chicken or the egg came 1st scenario with the moral to stay pure b/c God is gonna turn everything His way if you try to avoid it or not. Always recall St. Augustine: "Purity of soul cannot be lost without consent." It applies to angels too :)
